Mobile IP rotation and how it works
Why the address does not change instantly, what the pause between rotations is for and how to plan rotation around your task.
Rotating the IP on a mobile proxy is not a switch in our panel, it is the modem reconnecting to the carrier network. Everything else follows from that.
What happens during a rotation
The modem drops the session and requests a new one. The carrier hands out the next free address from its pool. That takes tens of seconds, and connections through the port break in the meantime, so it is a bad idea to rotate in the middle of a long operation.
Why there is a pause
Carriers treat very frequent reconnections as an anomaly and may throttle the modem. That is why we keep roughly a two-hour interval between rotations. It protects the port rather than limits the plan.
Planning rotation
- Individual: rotate before a new block of work, not on a timer.
- Shared: no button is needed, the ports are rebooted on schedule on our side.
- If your task needs a fresh address every few minutes, a mobile proxy is the wrong tool for it.
A new IP always belongs to the same carrier and the same region: neither the country nor the provider changes after a rotation.
